One of the things that I am proudest of is the work we do in Tacoma Rotary 8, where it has been my pleasure to serve as the Chairman of the Scholarship Committee for the past four years. This year, our 24-member committee conducted 30 interviews at 12 Tacoma high schools, and awarded $35,500 in scholarships, which will be used by the recipients to attend colleges and technical schools nationwide.
It is inspiring to talk to these future leaders. Each and every one of the award winners are top-notch students who have volunteered countless hours in their communities. They have all maintained impressive GPAs and plan to use their education to help them give back and help others in the future. These students fully understand what it takes to be successful, and how to make a positive impact on their lives and the lives of others.
While it appears on the surface that I am doing a good deed for others by committing my time to this project every year, it’s actually me and the committee members who are benefitting. This platform gives us a special opportunity to get to know the leaders of our future, and the future looks bright.
